More about Lady Jane’s Apartment
The property in which Lady Jane’s Apartment is located is an authentic nineteenth-century reconstruction of the original Minterne House, which stood on the exact same spot. The original property became part of Digby family history in 1768, when Robert Digby purchased the exquisite home. The present house was designed by award-winning English architect and artist Leonard Stokes, and includes reconstructions of many of the original features that made Minterne House such a stunning building.
Nestled within one of the property’s wings lies this gorgeous holiday home. Its full name is ‘The Lady Jane Digby El Mezran Apartment’, named after the remarkable nineteenth-century aristocrat. The daughter of Admiral Henry Digby and Lady Jane Elizabeth Coke, Lady Jane certainly knew how to enjoy life. Laying down roots everywhere from Norfolk and Germany to Greece and Syria, she spoke nine languages and never shied away from an adventure. Lady Jane was relaxed and free-spirited – characteristics that are reflected in the Minterne House apartment that bears her name.
The rooms
There are four incredible bedrooms in Lady Jane’s Apartment, sleeping up to 8 guests in total. Three bedrooms can be configured as king-size or twin beds as needed, with the fourth offering a spacious twin-bed setup. No matter who you’re travelling with, you’ll find it easy to make yourselves at home. Whichever bedroom you choose, you’ll enjoy unspoilt views across the grounds of Minterne House, which is set amongst some of Dorset’s most jaw-dropping natural scenery and surroundings.
Facilities and amenities
There are two bathrooms in Lady Jane’s Apartment: one with WC and bath, and one with WC and shower. Housed within the shower room is a dedicated utility area with washing machine and tumble dryer, which is perfect for freshening up your clothes if you’re planning to stay with us for a while.
As a self-catering property, Lady Jane’s Apartment comes with a fully equipped kitchen featuring an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer. And, of course, a spacious dining table. If you’re not in the mood to cook, why not speak to us to arrange dinner freshly prepared by a local chef?
After dinner, you can choose to retire to the comfortable sitting room – the perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring the local sights and attractions. With a smart TV, DVD player, selection of films, and music by Amazon Alexa, you can enjoy fun-filled nights without stepping outside.
Outdoor space
With off-road parking for up to 4 vehicles, it’s easy to explore the local area from Lady Jane’s Apartment. It’s the ideal base for visiting Dorset’s most famous locations, including the charming village of Cerne Abbas, the old market town of Sherborne, and vibrant and lively Dorchester.
But there’s so much to explore within the grounds of Minterne House, too. As Lord Digby’s guests, you’ll be warmly invited to visit the estate’s gorgeous Himalayan gardens, which are open every day between 10 am and 6 pm. A true haven of peace and serenity, the gardens are a place of quiet contemplation and a chance to view a unique collection of azaleas, hydrangeas, rhododendrons and more. Pack a picnic, pick a bench, and enjoy being in the very heart of Dorset’s natural beauty.
Lady Jane’s Apartment guests are also encouraged to make full use of the multiple family-friendly sporting facilities on-site. The lawn court is open for any tennis enthusiasts, while the outdoor heated pool – open between April and October – is the perfect place for a swim. Guests can enjoy a private swim in the pool during displayed times, so don’t forget to pack a swimsuit and pool towel!
Guests are required to bring their own towels for the swimming pool. Please kindly note, the pool is unsupervised, and children must be accompanied at all times.
