Stay at Minterne House

Explore England’s beautiful South-West from the luxurious comfort of Minterne Magna

Thinking of visiting Dorset? You’re not alone! Each year, 1.8 million people from all over the world choose to stay here to experience the region’s unrivalled beauty. But hotels aren’t your only option! For a more personal, more intimate, more local experience, why not be our guest?

Opening our doors

Minterne House is a Dorset icon. This stunning nineteenth-century country house – an authentic reconstruction of the seventeenth-century original – is a true landmark. Locals and visitors alike flock here to enjoy the 27-acre Minterne Gardens and stop for refreshments at our garden cafe. Yet few realise that the doors to our estate are open, and we love welcoming travellers into our historic grounds.

The corps de logis of Minterne House is the private residence of Lord Digby and remains closed to the public. However, we invite guests to share in our estate’s rich and vibrant heritage with stays in three stunning on-site accommodations. From a cosy cottage designed for two, to a poolside retreat and a sprawling farmhouse for all the family … wherever you stay, you’re stepping into history.

An ideal base for local exploration

Located on the banks of the River Cerne, the small parish of Minterne Magna holds a prime position roughly halfway between the traditional market town of Sherborne, and the lively sightseeing hotspot of Dorchester. Every day here in Dorset brings with it something completely different.

Cycling through the woodlands, or hiking through the numerous trails that meander through the region. Relaxing on Lyme Regis’ golden sands, or getting up close and personal with nature at one of the many National Trust properties. Taking a boat trip to historic Victorian resorts, or shopping in contemporary retail parks. There’s so much to see and do here. And we’re set in the heart of it all.

Immerse yourself in local culture

Dorset is bursting with history and culture. But did you know that some of the most fascinating tales come from within our own four walls? Minterne House has played host to the Churchill and Digby families over the years. Including Lady Jane Digby, whose life was filled with a level of excitement, adventure, and passion that made her famously open, free-spirited character the talk of society.

You’ll feel this energy throughout the Minterne Estate. And, when you stay with us, you may even have an opportunity to learn more about Minterne’s vibrant history with a private tour by Lord Digby himself.

But, of course, there’s so much else to see and do. And we can help you experience the very best of it all. Whether it’s local restaurant recommendations for must-try dishes, or private catering to showcase the very best of Dorset’s homegrown produce. Whether it’s taxis and transfers to the nearby attractions, or babysitting services to give you a little more freedom in how and when you explore. At Minterne Magna, we’re here to make your Dorset stay a truly unforgettable experience.
