At home in the Himalayas and described as a ‘Race of Giants’ Rhododendrons have nobility and grace, and their beauty is self-evident. Inciting horticultural passions for hundreds of years epitomized by the Victorian Plant Hunters they have survived and thrived in the west.
‘The real art of gardening,’ wrote Lionel de Rothschild, ‘is to make a plant that has come from distant lands not only look at home but feel at home.’ Here at Minterne Gardens the Rhododendrons have thrived for over a hundred years in the green sand which runs through the valley and the garden has over 200 species and 100 hybrids.
Our vibrant Historic Rhododendron collection comes into its own in MAY with stunning displays of flamboyant and fresh blooms from these glorious woody plants; coupled with the glorious scents from the Azaleas makes the garden an enticing place to visit.
Minterne Gardens open daily from 10am to 6pm.
